“The lilting melody of Bahudāri – a visual treat” is a video from Doordarshan Delhi recorded sometime during 1984 -85.
Sri. Purnachander (Violin), Sri. Madurai Sreenivasan, Sri. Nagarajan (Khanjira) and Sri. Palghat Sundaram (Ghatam) accompanies Sri. M Balamuralikrishna (BMK) in presenting his beautiful composition in the rāga Bahudāri – Kamaladalāyata lóchamulavé.
BMK was camped in New Delhi to conduct an orchestra (vādya-vrinda) for the Akashavani annual award function that took place in Vigyan Bhavan. There were about 50 to 60 artistes participated in the orchestra and BMK stayed back in New Delhi for about 10 days in preparing the artistes for the event. BMK composed and orchestrated a 10 minutes piece in “gati bedha priya rāgamālika” played through various instruments. The artistes from both Delhi AIR and Madras AIR comprised the orchestra.
During this sojourn in New Delhi, Doordarshan Delhi invited BMK to record a 30 minutes programme in which he rendered Bahudāri, presented here. Interestingly, some of the Madras AIR artistes who played in the orchestra also accompanied BMK for the Doordarshan recording.
I am thankful to Sri.Purnachander for sharing the above.
Enjoy the video!
