One of my favorite movies is Taxi Driver, so I thought I'd try a little movie spoof here, just for something different. If you have never seen the movie, then this may not make much sense. This video has no plot or violence like in the movie, so what is similar?
🔹The title is a description of the main character
🔹I used portions of the music score from the movie
🔹The main character in the movie is a lonely isolated man, and crossdressing can at times be a lonely and isolated activity
🔹I used the voice-over narration technique that was used in the movie
🔹I incorporated the famous line from the movie "you talkin' to me?"
The movie catapulted the careers of Martin Scorsese, Robert DeNiro, and Jodie Foster (can't say the same for Sybil Shepard).
The movie may also have been indirectly responsible for the assassination attempt of President Reagan in 1981. John Hinckley was obsessed by the movie (he saw it at least 15 times), in which the main character Travis Bickle tries to assassinate a presidential candidate. He became infatuated with Jodie Foster from the movie, and wrote a letter to her the day of the Reagan assassination attempt, telling her his actions were for her love.
Bernard Hermmann did the brilliant musical score for Taxi Driver, I find the jazzy music mesmerizing. He also did the score for Citizen Kane and several Hitchcock movies, most notably Psycho. Can you imagine the famous shower scene of Psycho without the piercing, shrieking violin music?
The voice-over narration technique used in Taxi Driver really draws you into the mind of Travis Bickle. Some of my other favorite movies using this technique are Apocalypse Now, Annie Hall, Goodfellas, The Usual Suspects, and Shawshank Redemption. Sorry, I don't have the commanding voice of a Morgan Freeman (from Shawshank Redemption) but what do you expect from a guy trying to sound feminine?
So now you know I am a movie buff. Maybe that's why I like making all these little videos.
